Keep Your Ears Open For…
I’ve always been a big music fan. My second real job (my first job was bagging groceries-that sucked) was at a music store (which totally qualifies me because I worked music retail). At that time I aspired to become one of those elitist music fans that liked the random obscure bands simple because they were random and obscure. Being able to name these bands before they “sell-out” or go big the crowning achievement of the people. It’s the elitist fan’s way of proving their alpha male dominance over you. Not really much to live for but some people think it’s the only way to go. These people usually wear girl jeans, dye their hair black, and walk around all pissed off. Cheer up emo kid. If it’s not that guy it’s the chubby guy with a beard that just moved his nerd-level focus from comics to music.
Let’s leave the fat guy alone and get back to the purpose of my post. I’ve always felt I had a knack for identifying bands that were really going to go somewhere. I felt I could spot the bands from miles away and tell you if they’d make it or not. Some of the bands I predicted would be big and was told I’ was “crazy” and didn’t know what I was talking about were Dave Matthews Band, Maroon 5, and OkGo. There are a few more out there but I don’t want to brag too much about how sweet I am because it could make you feel bad.
When I was more involved in the local SLC music scene I met a guy named Jayson Haws. At that time he was the front man for The Given. Jayson was born to play music. Ever since the first time I saw this guy play I knew he’d make it some day. I still think it’s only a matter of time for him. Here is a song from his forth coming album. The song is called Stars. It’s awesome.
So I’ve decided I’m going to continue to add bands to the keep an eye on list. Some will be fairly known and others will be groups that you’ve never heard of. Now that I’m back in the music industry (working as a marketing manager for Vocalist-Digitech product line) I’m back doing something that I love in an industry that I’m passionate about.
